Speaking of Radiant Orchid

This week we had the opportunity to help out with decorating for an event titled "This Girl". Its purpose is to help young girls build strong identities not based on media and physical images but rather whats inside.  Check out these photos. And look there is a little "Radiant Orchid" in the mix....i think these pantone people are on to something.

And the Winner is.....Radiant Orchid!

Every year in the design world, pantone selects a color of the year. Last year if you remember it was that beautiful emerald green. This year Pantone has selected...wait for it....it's coming....hold your horses...and moment now...RADIANT ORCHID! Look at that!

I'm sure you have seen this color starting to pop up everywhere. It has definitely made its way into spring fashion for this year. But how will it pan out in the interior design world? The people over at Pantone say this about Radiant Orchid,
" Radiant Orchid reaches across the color wheel to intrigue the eye and spark the imagination...An enchanting harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones, Radiant Orchid inspires confidence and emanates great joy, love and health."
Now don't we all want that in our home. Here is some inspiration to capture that feeling in your home.

Furniture Painting Is Fun To Do!

Furniture pieces that are old, out dated, blah, musty, worn out and just plain UGLY... there is hope for you. Here are some great pieces our friend Scott has been working on and what he has to say about them.

"This quality piece is amazing how it is BUT feels a little dark and outdated. With a warm pink color, its pretty perfect for my princess."

"I'm not sure why 'blue' is used to describe something sad or depressing. This blue brought out my green with envy. Love, love this color. Oh and glass knobs. Bang bang!! Shoot me now."

Coming This January

Here's what you have to look forward too this month with The Grande Design!

11th Day of Pinterest Christmas

Its day 11 and we want to share with you a unique way to wrap your gifts this year. Follow these steps to create a accordion pleated gift!

Step 1: Gather necessary supplies...including a gift to wrap.
Step 2: Fold the paper almost in half. Leave about an 1/2 and inch left. Unfold paper and repeat with other side.
This will create a center strip. This is the strip you will work from to create the pleats.
Step 3: Turn the paper over so you have the backside facing up. Starting on one side create accordion pleats coming out towards the edge on the paper. Make 3. Tape down to secure and repeat on the other side.
Step 4: Now you have a unique and special paper all ready to wrap that gift for your unique and special person.

10th Day of Pinterset Christmas

On the 10th day we share with you a far less expensive way to include a dashing wreath. If you ever walk into your local craft store or home decor store, wreaths are typically $50 or more, BUT if you have a few extra trimmings lying around after your tree has been decorated, you can create your own wonderful masterpiece.

8th Day of Pinterest Christmas

Oh how I love a good chalkboard. They have been all the rage this year and are a perfect way to express the feelings of the season, from the whimsical, to the magical, from the love to the joy. Chose your favorite description word hang it outside your door or accent it will some trimmings and you will have a lovely decoration piece.

7th Day of Pinterest Christmas

Recycled Luminary
Here's an idea of how to breathe yule tide cheer into those empty formula cans.  Formula is often the gift that keeps on giving.  But instead of spit up, this time, the gift you'll receive is the warm flicker of a tea candle and twinkling stars.

1st...  Remove the label from the can.
2nd...  Draw your desired design.
3rd...  Carefully cut the design away using a utility knife.  Caution: Exacto knives might not be stable enough to cut through the cardboard of the can.
4th...  Place a tea or votive candle inside and...  Trahlah!  Burn on your front porch or in a line on your sidewalk Christmas Eve.  Santa will find you better!

6th Day of Pinterest Christmas

On this 6th day we share with you an easy and simple idea. How many times to you receive cards, or gift bags, with great images? A great way to preserve that memory or turn them into a beautiful piece of art is by framing them. Over the years I have saved these gems with vintage Santa images. They completely capture the joy of the season and are a simple way to add to the holiday spirit! Here are some of my favorites.

2nd Day of Pinterest Christmas

The Grande Design has been spoiled by our wonderful clients and customers who are and have become our friends.  It's been our pleasure to deck you halls!  One of the opportunities we had a to slather the Christmas spirit around was in the home of Wendy Kendall.  Wendy has a lovely collection of Christmas décor.  We added deco-mesh and yule tide cheer was delivered down the chimney with care...  Okay I get it, the clichés are getting out of hand.  Take some time to browse the pics; and next year, if you have the fixin's or not...  Let The Grande Design deck your halls for rates that won't break your pocket book.  Thanks Wendy & merry Christmas!

1st Day of Pinterest Christmas

Chalk- banner! The chalkboard trend is in full swing and creating a chalk-banner is a simple and easy way to incorporate that trend this holiday season. Use it to display a sentimental saying or quote to capture the feeling of the season.

Special thanks to our dear friend Liz who created this simple yet beautiful piece.
